Whitney Moore
VPhA Research and Education Foundation Student Award Winner
On August 2, 2009, fourth professional year student Whitney Moore was awarded the Virginia Pharmacist Association Research and Education Foundation Student Award for demonstrating exceptional service and commitment to the profession of pharmacy during her career at Hampton University School of Pharmacy. The award was presented by Tim Musselman at the 128th VPhA Annual Convention Banquet in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
VPhA Service Award Winner
On August 4, 2009, external preceptor Patricia B. Resto was awarded the Virginia Pharmacist Service Award for unselfish donation of time and talent to the profession of pharmacy and the Virginia Pharmacists Association as witnessed by her active involvement in and leadership of Association activities on a local and state level. This award was presented by Delegate S. Chris Jones during 128th VPhA Annual Convention Banquet in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
VPhA's OTC CHAMPIONSHIP BOWL
Congratulations to fourth professional year students Amber Joseph, Elizabeth Lin, Charlene Mayah, and Whitney Moore for their 3rd place finish at the Virginia Pharmacists Association's 4th Annual OTC Championship Bowl game.
American Pharmacists Month
On October 17, 2009, in honor of American Pharmacists Month, APhA-ASP students participated in the Sister 2 Sister Annual Health Fair in Newport News, Virginia. They provided blood pressure and blood sugar screenings and information on diabetes and hypertension.
Clinical Skills Competition Winners
Congratulations to fourth year students Nakia Beard and Amber Joseph, winners of this year's local Clinical Skills Competition. These students will represent the School of Pharmacy at the State VSHP and National ASHP Midyear competition.
Brooke Ade earns two awards
Congratulations to fourth professional year student Brooke Ade. She is the recipient of two VSHP awards, the VSHP Student Leadership Award and the Student Excellence in Health-System Pharmacy Award.
CLINICAL SKILLS COMPETITION WINNERS
Congratulations to Charlene Phillips and Brian Manns, Pharm.D. Candidates, winners of the year's local Clinical Skills Competition who will represent the School of Pharmacy at the national ASHP Midyear competition.
HU SCHOOL OF PHARMACY RECEIVES $400,000 GRANT FOR ALZHEIMER'S RESEARCH
The School of Pharmacy received a $404,163 grant for a project entitled, "Abeta Peptide in the Blood Serum of Alzheimer's Patients," funded by the MBRS/ SCORE Program through NIGMS. Dr. Chengan Du and Mrs. Corinne Ramaley are developing an analytical method to measure the concentration of abeta protein in the blood using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) coupled with Tandem Mass Spectrometry.
